What is a Pinewood Derby?

Pinewood Derby is a tradition dating back to 1953. Each participant builds a gravity-powered car out of a 7" block of wood and races it down an inclined track. There are awards for speed, of course, but also for design and craftsmanship. And the racing is super-competitive. Some races are decided by the ten-thousandths of a second.
